The Solution

Description

Being late has its consequences, but I'd never thought it'd be anything like this. It began when I hurried into the Pre-veterinary club meeting 20 minutes late. The problem was that this was my fourth offense. I took a seat in the back of the classroom, trying to ignore the stares of disapproval. I did my best to try and catch up on the discussion, but the advisor, Ashley, called on me to answer a question. "Aside from the things already mentioned, how do you think we could improve the animal science courses?" Grabbing at straws, I said, "Well, it might be better to learn more about dogs and cats. The curriculum seems to be focused on cattle, horses, and swine." A few people around the room nodded in agreement. "How would we get hands-on experience then?" she refuted. "We can take a 3 minute drive to the farm to observe livestock, but we can't for small animals." I shrugged. She made a note on her clipboard, and then asked someone else the same question. Whew, I thought to myself. Dodged a bullet there. The meeting finished with a reminder that next week's meeting would be in the same room, "starting at 6:00" she added looking at me.
A week passed, and it was quarter after five when I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and saw Ashley standing there, holding a dog collar and a leash. “I figured I’d come and get you this time.” “Alright, but aren’t you a little early?” I asked. “I thought you’d like to know that we figured out how to solve your problem.” “Really? How?” I asked, excited by the prospect of a friendly dog replacing the massive, angry sows. She moved quickly, and before I knew it, the collar was clasped around my throat. “What the hell!? How is this supposed to fix the problem?” She just turned and walked down the hall, saying over her shoulder, “Don’t be late.”
Confused, I closed the door. What the heck was that about? She was probably embarrassing me because I’d been late so often. She was rather strict. But this was a little over the top. I glanced in the mirror at the red collar, which even had a gold tag. As I viewed how ridiculous I looked, a black paw print with a swirl in it appeared on the tag. At the same moment, before I was even able to wonder if I was just seeing things, a wave of nausea struck. I reeled back, bumping into the door, hardly able to stay standing. My vision blurred, and I closed my eyes as I leaned against the door. Just as quickly as it arose, it disappeared, replaced by a bizarre feeling across my entire body, like my skin was crawling. Shakily, I took a step forward as I placed my hand on the wall, which was greeted by an unfamiliar click. It took a sec for me to realize something was wrong. I stared bewildered at my hand as black claws grew and my fingertips and palms thickened into pads. What was going on? I looked in the mirror and was alarmed to see what used to be my face. My eyes were amber colored, my nose black, my ears pointed. Fur was already a short coat, and continued to lengthen quickly. Whiskers began to grow, and my lips were black. I staggered to the mirror to get a closer look. My mouth itched and I watched in horror as my teeth elongated into fangs. The changes accelerated. My hands crunched into paws, my feet tore through my socks as they too became paws. An intense pain in my spine caused me to yelp as my tail grew, forcing me onto all fours. I cried out as the same pain forced my mouth and nose to push out into a muzzle. The entire process had taken less than a minute. I could hardly think as it happened, and comprehension disappeared as my mind simplified into that of a German shepherd. I sniffed around the room without any recollection of the events, and a couple minutes later the door opened. I bounded over to it and jumped on Ashley in an attempt to lick her face. She laughed, petted me twice, and hooked the leash onto the color. She walked down the hallway, with the solution, to my both my problems, trotting at her heels.

A photomanipulation of me transforming into a german shepherd in the early stages. Felt it was a little empty, so I wrote a quick story about it. (Yes, I'm usually late to vet club, but its because it starts 20 minutes before orchestra ends.) I don't know why I'm surprised or horrified, this would be like a dream come true. Wanted to make claws and pads, I haven't done them in a photomanip often. Had fun with the doggy features in the face; its one of my favorite parts. If you have any suggestions on how to make it more dog-like, let me know.
